Château Bonnet

Siblings Charlotte and Julien Perrachon from Château Bonnet in the village of Chenas make attractive Beaujolais. A familiar story lies here with the two siblings taking over the reins from their father Pierre-Yves, on a property dating back to 1630. Julien is working with his strengths in the vineyard, and he still loves to pick the brain of his Grandfather who lives on the estate, while his sister Charlotte is the winemaker having recently completed her studies in Beaune and some international workplace experience, including here in Australia. In fact, their Moulin à Vent ‘Vin de Garde’ idea pays homage to her love of the winery dogs she encountered here in Australia, and the dog in the picture is their estate dog in Beaujolais, Nesquik!

After so much searching we are really excited to fill the Beaujolais gap in our range with such high quality wines. We enjoyed these wines immensely; they were lively, juicy, and complex examples of Gamay and each represents the nuances of their respective Cru; Saint Amour, Julienas and Moulin à Vent.

  • Château Bonnet owns 2.7 hectares of Saint Amour appellation located on the 400-metre high slopes of the Côte de Besset, with an ideal southeast exposure. Saint-Amour is famous for being the most elegant and pleasing cru of Beaujolais. Aroma of crushed strawberry, fresh cranberry, dried rose petal, and Earl Grey tea. The palate is full of fruit, elegantly strung along with fresh acidity and fine mineral.

  • Grown on granite and magmatic rock terroirs in the heart of Beaujolais, this Gamay from vines over 60 years old expresses all the typical characteristics of the appellation. Whole bunch vinification and 10 months' ageing in concrete vats preserve the purity of the fruit and the freshness of the terroir. An authentic, precise and delicious wine, awarded 2 stars and a "Coup de Cœur" in the 2026 Guide Hachette. A perfect example of the revival of Beaujolais at the hands of passionate winemakers.

Made from lots of small plots, mostly on volcanic blue soil. Glowing purple, a little more intensity on the nose. A good acid balance here with the sharper features from this soil, less plump but racy and distinguished. Jasper Morris MW

  • This comes from a 0.8ha plot of 60 year old vines, and is aged for 12 months in large, old oak barrels, Dusty red cherry and red plum brush up against dried cranberry and white-tea aromas on the nose. Youthful, grippy tannins provide added structure and depth while leaning into forest floor and a whisper of dried field herbs. Definite ageing potential if you can resist…
